I really am quite happy with how the states system turned out. Under the hood I realize that the first system (huge bucket of if-statements) and the second system (labyrinth of switch-statements furnished with secret minotaur) would have been indistinguishable to players. So far as they’d know, the game would handle exactly the same.

But it’d be buggy as shit, and suspiciously shorter because I’d hate coding it.
