Before you start anything, break it down into the first two steps.

Every time you finish a step, plan ahead one. So when you finish step 1, plan step 3 and start on step 2. When you finish step 2, plan step 4 and start step 3.

Generally, you shouldn’t have greater or fewer than 2 steps planned, unless you’re on the last step or done. Or dead.

Make exceptions whenever necessary.

(Not being a prescriptivist, just talking to myself.)
